The wych elm is something I discovered this season and is an absolutely beautiful tree. There are quite a few on Back Lane and some on Vineyard Lane. The leaves look a little like hazel leaves, hence its other name wych-hazel and its winged fruit, also known as samara, are round in shape and hang like the keys of the sycamore or ash.
