The Spindle Tree

The seeds of the spindle tree are a joy to behold in the hedgerows at the moment. The pink outer casings will eventually burst to reveal pumpkin orange seeds in a riot of autumn colour.

There's an interesting bit of folklore I found when I looked up this tree. If the Spindle Tree flowers early it warns of a 'plague' across the land.

Anyone know of it flowered early this year?
