Pyramidal Orchids

Thanks to Adrian who emailed me this week to let me know about some pyramidal orchids he had spotted in Whitedale Field.
The new fenced off footpath might not be terribly picturesque however it does mean that the wildflowers either side of the fence are now prolific and in amongst the rough hawkbit, self heal and clover you will find a thriving patch of pyramidal orchids, which I am told are three weeks late this
year.
I headed up there in the tail end of a thunder storm and the humid air meant there were also plenty of insects and beetles amongst the flowers including small heath butterflies which are plentiful on a warm day.
