I've noted it's a good year for Misteltoe this year and you can find it aplenty in the oak and apple trees which are its favoured spots.

Mistletoe in the apple trees of Gilbert White's garden, during my October nature journaling workshop, got us talking about the folklore of this parasitic plant and eventually led us to 'Asterix The Gaul' through golden sickles.

🌙

As part of a fertility ritual druids, dressed in white, would climb oak trees to cut the mistletoe with a golden sickle.

This clearly also sparked the imagination of the creators of Asterix, as Getafix the druid has a golden sickle.

🌙

It's amazing how many children's stories encompass folklore. What's your favorite use of folklore in a story?
