Elephant Hawk Moth

In the latest edition of Nature Notes I mentioned that there had been lots of sightings of Elephant Hawk Moths this summer but that I had yet to see one myself.

This wonderful picture was sent to me by a villager living in the Green Lane area of the village showing an Elephant Hawk Moth they spotted in a moth trap they set up to observe moths. They also found a wondrous Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillar, hanging from the tree in their garden.

What a treat!
